Quantum State Engineering in Thin-Film Diamond

Diamond is a leading material system for quantum science, with many landmark demonstrations in quantum sensing and communication. However, traditional approaches to engineering quantum nodes in diamond create significant barriers to scalability and performance. We are engineering a thin-film diamond platform that will unlock the material from these constraints, and allow easy integration of coherent diamond qubits with superconducting detectors, electronics, acoustics, and high-performance photonics. With this platform, we will build the next generation of multiplexed quantum nodes for communication and distributed entanglement. We will also construct on-chip testbeds and networks to investigate novel entanglement protocols and exotic distributed quantum states. This research leverages the state-of-the-art materials science and quantum networking capabilities at Argonne.
